🏳️⚧️ Trans Pride Banner 🏳️⚧️
with Pecs Education
In June and July 2024, we worked with Pecs Education, an organisation that provides strength and conditioning classes for trans masculine and non-binary bois, to make a banner for Trans Pride.

When Pecs approached us to help create their banner, they wanted it to be their very own piece of Trans history.
👉🏽 They wanted a banner that was built-to-last so that they could take it on many more marches and display it at all their events. 👉🏽 They wanted to create something they could add to in the future, a living record of their solidarity and showing up for their community. 👉🏽 Most importantly, they wanted the process of making the banner to be a fun and social activity that brings the group together outside of the gym. ✌🏽
What did you like about these sessions?
“Doing something physical and tangible, learning new skills, feeling part of history, having time to connect to people in the community through a structured activity that was very levelling. It didn't require you to already know people, or be very extroverted.”
For the banner's design, we used the iconic ‘strong arm’ from the Pecs logo as the background, creating a vibrant and bold repetitive pattern that reflects the values and combined strength of the Pecs community and members.

“Our motto is ‘Lifting for Liberation’. We believe our classes should be empowering, mutually supportive, inclusive and joyful.”
Kole Fulmine, co-founder of Pecs Education.
It took two months and twenty-two members of the Pecs Education community to make the banner. We used many different techniques, and with a variety of abilities and skills within the group, there was something for everyone to get involved with.
✂️
Fabric cutting, sewing and ‘bagging out’ the arms, pressing and ironing, hand quilting the arms together for the background, preparing and cutting out the letters for the messaging, sewing the letters onto the banner with appliqué stitch, overlocking and finishing the banner edges and adding the all-important pole loops!
“It was lovely to bring small groups together to get to know each other better. I loved helping design the banner and it was so nice to make something collaboratively. I felt proud marching with it at trans pride.”
Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in! I was overwhelmed by the team's passion and dedication to creating something so meaningful and important to them. I couldn’t have felt prouder when marching with the group at Trans Pride.

“It’s a brilliant idea to come together as a community and learn with and from each other. It’s always more productive and fun to do a project together, I don’t have the focus to stick to a task on my own. Amazing project. Very wholesome.”
